Never

This is the post I never wanted to write. Not that I ever wanted to write most of them.

My heart is broken and my words are absent.

Harper is gone. A bright and shining light has departed this world, leaving us in darkness and illuminating heaven instead.

Words I never thought I could write.

Never.

  1. Brian, Melissa, Cadence and Finn - our family is praying for your family as you have shared with us that Harper is no longer with us. No words can heal you. We pray that Harper will live on through all the lives she touched and will continue to touch through her story and you sharing her story. Our hearts break for you. We pray for your strength, your love and each step you must now take without Harper. We love you and will be here for you however we can.

My heart is broken for you. I will continue to pray that you and your daughters find some sense of peace in this painful place. I know in my heart that Harper's bright and shining light continues to shine in you and her sisters -- and in all the lives she has touched.

  12. Our family has shed many tears for all of you tonight. Harper was an amazing little girl. She had so much charisma! We have been praying for her nightly since her diagnosis. Cancer has touched our family also and it is so true that no one fights alone. Harper was such a fighter and that was because you fought so hard with her. Please know that your family has been such an example of pure love. This community loves you and we will continue to pray for all of you. Your loss is unimaginable, but the grace you have shown is inspirational. Love to all of you, Beth, Dennis, Bayden, Cort, and Eliza Watson

  13. I'm so sorry for you loss. You don't know me, but I am a friend/former grad school classmate of Christine Esterman's and I saw her post, which led me here. There are not words that anyone can say that can help during this time, except, perhaps, I understand. That is because I lost my little girl of 19 mos. earlier this year. This is the worst loss and pain any one person can ever suffer. Do what you need to in each moment in order to get by. Others may not understand it, but that doesn't matter, you need to do what's right for you at that time. Of course, you don't want to hear that others have gone through the pain of losing a child, but when you do, it can help you to know that you're not alone and there are others who have had to deal with grief and living with it and without their beloved child. I don't know if you're local to Kannapolis/Rowan County of NC, but if you are, there's an amazing bereavement group for parents who have lost children called Circle of Hope. It has really helped me deal with the loss of my little Ruby. There are parents who have lost children of all ages. Here's the website: http://www.michaelyangfound.org/ I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that you're not alone.

  21. Brian, I've thought about Harper all this day. There are no words to make this better, but try to take comfort in the knowledge that your family shared more love with Harper in the few years you had her than many families share in a long lifetime. Love to you.

  22. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, Brian. It is never easy to let a child go. We call people who have lost their parents orphans, wives or husbands who lost their spouses widows/widower, but there is nothing to call a parent who has lost a child. For it is nothing but unbearable pain for them. I wish you well.
